We raced at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway on Sunday the 9th January for Round 2 of the Sprintcar State Series.
I am having loads of fun racing at the moment, learning a lot each time we race especially with the other drivers I am racing against.
I had a good race meet at Toowoomba. I drew 31 for my qualifying position out of 33 which is always tough at Toowoomba – normally you would like to be more towards the front but it’s the luck of draw sometimes.
I went out for my 2 laps and on my second lap got a time of 11.130 which put me in 3rd overall with 2 drivers to go. The driver after me beat my time putting me back to 4th (which I was super happy with given the calibre of drivers I am up against.)
Heat 1 saw me start out of 6th. I got hit in the right rear as I was going past a car – it didn’t feel too bad so I kept on going but then coming into turn 3 and 4 the car jumped around like crazy. After nearly putting it into the wall I realised that I had a problem, so I slowed down and pulled it in field. We had knocked the Jacob’s ladder out of the rear end which meant the rear could move side to side, making the car too hard to drive.
My crew scrambled like mad to get the car fixed and I just managed to make it out in time for heat 2. I started in 5th and finished in 3rd achieving some good points.
With my combined results from qualifying and heat races I managed to be 10th overall on points. This meant I started the A main feature from 10th position.
I went forward a couple of spots and moved into 7th place but unfortunately as I pulled my tear offs I removed all 20 of them at once! This meant that for half the race I had no tear offs left, making it really difficult to see. I managed to bring it home in 12th which I was still happy with.
Hot Laps time: 12.446
Time Trials: 11.130 4th overall
Heat 1: started 9th finished DNF
Heat 2: started 5th finished 3rd
Dash: DNS
Feature: 10th finished 12th
Thanks to all my sponsors, family and crew for all their support and help getting me out on the race track each week.
**10th January in Maryborough was cancelled due to the unbelievable amount of rain and flooding.
Next onto Lismore on 12th January for the State Series.
