We raced at Hi Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway last weekend for Round 3 of the Ultimate Sprintcar Championship. Toowoomba Speedway is an impressive facility and if you have not been out there to speedway yet, you are certainly missing out.

The format was one car at a time for qualifying. We were the 12^th car on track, which is normally a pretty good spot to sit for qualifying. It’s in the middle of the field so the track is normally pretty good by then. This time they managed to make the track pretty consistent for the whole field, which is great and a credit to the track prep team at Toowoomba.

Qualifying – we qualified 6^th overall which was really great. We aim for the Top Ten and then work from there, so to be 6^th was a good result.

Heat 1 – again due to the tyre shortage there is only 1 heat out at Toowoomba. We started from 2^nd place – I managed to get a great run into turn one on the top and shot out of there in the lead managing to stay in front and win the heat.

Dash – I was 2^nd highest in points so I started 2^nd in the dash. I went in on the top again and shot out but this time I had cars sliding up on me and no choice but to hit the brakes or be in a massive crash. After hitting the brakes, I went back to 5^th place, but in doing so I tagged the wall and bent something in the back of the car. I managed to finish 5^th.

Feature – I started from 5^th position and finished 5^th. My car wasn’t the greatest and that’s not an excuse, we just didn’t have enough time to fix it 100%, so it was a bit too tight the whole race and I had to muscle it around for the entire race.
